STORY #3--Prayer for Financial Provision

Posted by Klaus Issler on March 16, 2010

JESUS
:            “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Luke 11:9-10)

A few years ago my family and I (J.P.) were hit with an unexpected financial crisis.  Shortly thereafter during a morning walk I told the Lord that I was at a point where I really needed to see Him intervene for me.  Suddenly, a thought came to me: “Why don’t you ask me to do something for you now?”  I wasn’t sure it was the Lord or my own thoughts, but I responded to what I thought was his prompting and asked that He bring my family a specific amount of money that very day.  My faith was not particularly strong at this time.  The mail came and went with no check.  But at 5:20 that evening, completely out of the blue and totally unexpectedly, I received an amount above what I had requested from someone who knew me but knew nothing of my situation.  It was simply incredible, and besides the wonderful provision from God, this answer to prayer engendered God-confidence in my entire family and me.

These incidents listed may seem fairly small and insignificant.  In one sense, they are.  After all, getting a rental house or receiving specific amounts of money as an answer to prayer is not as important as world peace.  But an answer to the latter request is hard to measure and, in any case, the incidents seemed big at the moment to those who were praying.

“True faith is never found alone; it is always accompanied by expectations.

The man who believes the promise of God expects to see them fulfilled. Where there is no

expectation there is no faith.”
